aiCarousels just launched a fully freeform editor. We tried it and compared editing, brand kits, video and publishing. Spoiler: their Post button doesn't post

aiCarousels.com Released a New Editor. Here's Our Take.

· 14 min read

aiCarousels just shipped a brand-new, fully freeform editor. Welcome to freeform, friends. We saved you a seat.

We mean that. More tools taking design seriously is good for everyone who makes carousels. But the editor is only one step in making a social post. So we compared the whole job: getting from idea to draft, editing it, keeping it on brand, getting help from AI, and actually publishing it. Then, on October 7, 2026, we built the same carousel in both tools.

Short version: aiCarousels made its editor flexible. PostNitro is still the one that takes a post all the way from idea to published.

Hybrid editing vs freeform everywhere

aiCarousels went all-in: every slide in its new editor is a freeform canvas. PostNitro took a different route, on purpose.

In PostNitro, every slide starts in a structured layout. Spacing, alignment and text sizing are handled for you, so a 10-slide deck stays consistent and you're done in minutes. When one slide needs more, switch just that slide to Freeform mode and drag, drop, reposition and rotate anything on it. The rest of the deck stays tidy.

We built it this way because that's how people actually work. Most creators are faster and more comfortable in a guided editor, and only want full control on the cover or the one slide that has to pop. Freeform everywhere means nudging alignment by hand on every slide, even the ones that were already fine.

Your design doesn't have to stop at the slide edge

When you do go freeform in PostNitro, you can go past the edge. Let a photo or shape run off slide 2 and continue onto slide 3, so the carousel reads as one continuous canvas and people keep swiping to see the rest.

aiCarousels' new editor does this too: images can overflow onto the next slide, so on this one we're even.

How it feels to actually drag things

A freeform editor lives or dies on one thing: does the element go where your mouse goes? In our testing, aiCarousels' new editor glitched when dragging and resizing.

That's understandable for a fresh release. Drag-and-drop is hard to get right, and we've been refining our editor since 2023. PostNitro's editor isn't just used by our own 84,000+ creators. More than 200 other platforms, including ContentStudio, Publer, Circleboom and RADAAR, embed the same editor inside their products. When that many teams ship it to their own customers, "mostly works" isn't good enough.

Don't take our word for it. Open the PostNitro editor with no signup, drag something around, and compare.

The Post button that doesn't post

aiCarousels' new editor has a shiny Post button in the top bar. Click it and you get a "How to post on LinkedIn" pop-up with three steps:

  1. Go to linkedin.com and click "Start a post."
  2. Click "+", choose "Add a document," upload the PDF and give it a title.
  3. Paste your caption and post.

Then there's a "Mark as posted" button, so you can tell the app you did the posting yourself.

It's a Post button in the way a picture of a door is a door.

What happens when you click Post in aiCarousels' new editor: instructions, a Download button, and "Mark as posted."

In PostNitro, Post means post. Connect your accounts once, pick a time and close the tab. PostNitro publishes natively, and it shapes the post for each network:

  • LinkedIn: goes out as a native document carousel with its own title, the format LinkedIn rewards.
  • Instagram: carousel, image or reel in the feed, and your story at the same time.
  • TikTok: a photo slideshow with optional auto-added music, or a rendered reel. Privacy, comments, duet, stitch, branded-content and AI-disclosure settings are all set before it goes out.
  • Threads: carousel, image or reel.
  • Facebook Pages: multi-photo carousels, link carousels with a button, images and reels.

One design can go to all five networks with a different caption on each, and hashtags are pulled out for you. A month planner shows drafts and scheduled posts side by side, and you can open any of them to change the design or caption without leaving.

Brand kits: a tie, mostly

We expected a bigger gap here. aiCarousels' Themes save your colors and fonts, hold your logo, name and headshots, and you can keep several for different brands. You can also override colors per slide or per element. That's on par with PostNitro's brand kits.

The one difference we found: PostNitro lets you upload your own font files, so licensed brand typefaces work out of the box. We couldn't find a way to upload fonts in aiCarousels.

AI that edits words vs AI that designs with you

Both tools let you talk to the AI. The difference is how far it reaches.

aiCarousels' new editor has an "Ask AI to change anything" bar and quick text buttons: Rewrite, Shorter, Longer, Simpler. Those are handy for tightening a line of copy.

PostNitro's Nitro Chat sits beside the canvas and works on the whole post, text and design:

  • Start from anything. A topic, an article URL, an X post or thread, or your own script, with your wording and structure kept. Bulk-import a CSV to build many carousels at once.
  • Approve the outline first. It drafts the slide-by-slide structure and waits for your yes before writing the deck.
  • Edit by asking. Rewrite a slide, set exact wording, add, remove or reorder slides, or turn one into an infographic.
  • Restyle by asking. Colors, gradients, font pairs, canvas size and brand. Every palette is checked for legible contrast before it's applied, so you never get pale text on a pale box.
  • Pick your model. Choose GPT 5.4, Claude Sonnet 4.6, Claude Opus 4.7 or a faster model per generation.
  • AI images per slide. Generated from each slide's content, as a background or inline, using models like Nano Banana, Flux, Imagen, Ideogram and GPT Image.
  • Sounds like you. Point it at your knowledge base for voice, and generate in your audience's language.

Because slides start in a structured layout, these AI edits land where you expect, and you can still switch a slide to Freeform afterwards to fine-tune by hand.

One design, every format

A carousel is one format. Your audience scrolls through several.

PostNitro builds three formats from the same templates and brand kit:

  • Carousels in eight sizes: square 1:1, portrait 4:5 and 3:4, Pinterest pin 2:3, story 9:16, landscape 4:3, presentation 16:9, and a 128:27 ultra-wide panorama.
  • Single-image posts, for days when a carousel is more than the idea needs.
  • Animated video. Your slides become scenes in an MP4, from 5 seconds to just under a minute, with animated text and a soundtrack from the built-in Audius library or your own upload. That's how carousel content reaches TikTok and Reels.

Export as PNG per slide, a single PDF, or MP4, or publish straight from PostNitro.

aiCarousels creates carousels and offers a separate free tool to convert them to video afterwards.

Built for AI agents and automation

More and more posts start in an AI assistant, not an editor. PostNitro is built for that. aiCarousels has no API.

  • Claude and ChatGPT. Listed in both directories. Connect in one click with your PostNitro login, no API key.
  • MCP server with 35 tools for Claude Code, Cursor and any MCP client.
  • CLI and REST API, so one request can write the deck, render it and book the slot.
  • n8n (verified node), Zapier and Make for no-code workflows.
  • Drafts a human can finish. An agent can hand you an editable design that opens in the editor for approval.

Made for teams and agencies

aiCarousels is built for one person. PostNitro scales to a team:

  • Workspaces per client, up to 5 on Team+, each with its own brand kits.
  • Team members with their own access, and approval before anything publishes.
  • Embed SDK. If you run a platform, put this exact editor inside your produc. ContentStudio, Publer, Circleboom and RADAAR are among 200+ platforms that already do.

Where aiCarousels still does well

Fair is fair. aiCarousels is a good pick in a few cases:

  • YouTube and PDF imports. It turns videos and PDFs into carousels. PostNitro takes topics, article URLs, X posts, your own text and CSVs, but not YouTube or PDF yet.
  • Bonus tools. Pro includes a LinkedIn post generator, infographic and quote card makers, and an AI headshot generator, plus a long list of free tools.
  • More slides at the entry price. Pro at $14.95 gives you more slides per carousel than our $15 Starter plan.
  • You only want freeform. If you'd rather place every element by hand on every slide, an all-freeform editor suits you.
  • Brand themes. Saved colors, fonts, logos and headshots, with multiple themes for different brands.

If you want a quick carousel to download and post yourself, it does the job. If you want structure when it helps, freedom when you need it, and posts that actually go out, keep reading.

Pricing

The entry prices are nearly identical. Where they split is what each tool can grow into.

The verdict

aiCarousels' new editor is a real step up for aiCarousels. It is not a step up from PostNitro.

They made every slide freeform. We made freeform a switch, so you get structure by default and full control on the slides that need it. Their editor glitched when we dragged things, and their Post button is a set of instructions.

And the editor is only the start. PostNitro also gives you an AI that edits the whole design, video and single-image posts, native publishing to five networks, agents and automation, and workspaces for teams.

So welcome to freeform, aiCarousels. Genuinely. We'll keep the seat warm.

Open the PostNitro editor free. No signup, no card. Switch a slide to Freeform, drag an image across two slides, and see for yourself.

FAQ

Does aiCarousels have a freeform editor now? Yes. Every slide in its new editor is freeform. PostNitro uses a hybrid approach: slides start in a structured layout, and you switch any slide to Freeform mode to drag, drop, reposition and rotate elements.

Why doesn't PostNitro make every slide freeform? Because most people are faster in a guided editor and only need full control on a few slides. Structured layouts keep a deck consistent and make AI edits predictable. Freeform is one click away when you want it.

Can elements run across slides? Yes, in both. In PostNitro, an image or shape can carry from one slide onto the next, and aiCarousels' new editor lets images overflow onto the next slide too.

Can aiCarousels post or schedule to LinkedIn? No. Its Post button opens instructions for downloading the PDF and uploading it to LinkedIn yourself. PostNitro publishes and schedules natively to LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Threads and Facebook Pages from the Creator+ plan.

Which is better for brand consistency? They're close. Both save colors, fonts, logos and headshots, and both support multiple brands. PostNitro also lets you upload your own font files; we couldn't find that option in aiCarousels.

Can I make videos? PostNitro turns your slides into an animated MP4 with music, and can publish it as a TikTok or Instagram reel. aiCarousels offers a separate carousel-to-video converter.

Can I use PostNitro from Claude or ChatGPT? Yes. PostNitro is listed in both directories and connects in one click. It also has an MCP server, CLI and REST API. aiCarousels has no API.

Is aiCarousels cheaper? At the entry level they're about the same: $14.95 vs $15 a month, and aiCarousels allows more slides per carousel. Scheduling, publishing, API access and team workspaces aren't available in aiCarousels at any price.

Can I try PostNitro's editor without signing up? Yes. Open the editor, pick a template and start editing. Nothing is saved unless you create a free account.

A note on accuracy. This review is written by the PostNitro team and reflects our testing of both tools on October 7, 2026. Both products change often, and aiCarousels may have updated features or pricing since then. If anything here is incorrect or out of date, email us at support@postnitro.ai and we'll review it and update the post.
